Week two has been a very productive week for the Greybots. Since last week, the team has been focusing on the game for 2012, Rebound Rumble. The game challenge is to create a robot that can manipulate foam basketballs and score them into baskets. Included into the game are 3 bridges worth different point values where the bot needs to either cooperate with either their own alliance or the others. In regards to the game this week, the team really focused on the production of the current designed parts, working on the detailed design of the robot, and finishing prototypes and field game pieces.
The students and mentors were hard at work this week gathering materials and man power to complete various amounts of parts for this years robot. Sub-assembly 1 and 2 had the most production this week. Even though the team is still waiting on parts for the two assemblies, the manufacturing percentage is approximately around 70% right now. Sub-assembly 3 is still in some conceptual design but parts have been coming in for the parts that are complete. With that, we would like to thank Team 1647, the Iron Devils, for their contribution from their sheet metal shop for this sub-assembly. As for sub-assembly 4, 90% of detailed design is complete and the team should be creating and buying parts very soon for it.
The Greybots have been working extremely hard on the designs of all 4 sub-assemblies. As of right now, the robot is approximately 80% done in detailed design and everyone is very excited how everything is coming together. The team will start sub-assembly 5 conceptual design in the upcoming week. The delay has come down to trying to get other assemblies created before this one is started. Overall, we are all pleased that everything has been coming together for the best robot the team has ever created.
Just a small note, many students, parents, and mentors have helped in the completion of all of the prototypes and game structures over the past week as well. We would like to thank all of them for their hard work this week and many more to come.
