Week One Update: Rebound Rumble for 2012

Wow! The first week of the build season flew by very quick. Anyways, this past week, the Greybots had all traveled to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo to watch the pre-recorded kick off in a large classroom. After getting a few laughs from the GDC, special guests, and the organization heads, we found out the game for the year, which is in fact, Rebound Rumble. After seeing the game animation and figuring out small details. The Greybots, collectively, gathered into small groups and dissected the rules pertaining to the game. After all of that was done, the team got back together to discuss what certain strategy the team wanted to take. Even though there were some conflicting ideas about what exactly we wanted to do, the team got a very narrowed down game plan in their minds.
The team over the past week has been running through many conceptual and detailed designs on the robot. The strategy that the Greybots took over from Cal Poly had many things that we really needed to figure out before the team decided on a detailed product. Overall, the team is well on its way to completing a very unique and intricate robot for the 2012 season. Right now, sub-assembly 1 and 2 are completed on detailed design and well underway into manufacturing. Sub-assembly 3 is about 75% done on detailed design and some parts are ready to go for manufacturing. Sub-assembly 4 is under some conceptual design still and should be completely done during this up coming weekend. As for the last and final sub-assembly, there is still some small prototyping and tweaking that needs to be done to it before the final detailed design becomes apparent.
As for us, we are really looking forward to this season. There has been a recent surge of not only student expansion but also mentors and parents that have really stepped up to the plate to help for the season. It is fitting to say that the Greybots are going to be a top contender come game time.
